This policy explains how York Best Rated ("we", "us") collects and uses personal data, and your rights under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

York Best Rated is a curated local business directory operated by cottle.digital. For any privacy question, contact us at hello@yorkbestrated.uk.

What we collect

  • Information you give us — when you recommend a business, register a business, or sign up to our newsletter (e.g. your name, email, and the details you submit). The recommend and register forms are hosted on this site; what you submit is passed to our forms/CRM provider, GoHighLevel. Our newsletter sign-up is hosted by GoHighLevel directly.
  • Newsletter sign-ups — we use a confirmed (double) opt-in: you'll receive an email asking you to confirm before we ever send you anything.
  • Basic technical data — our host may process limited, aggregated server data (such as page requests) to keep the site running and secure. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking.

How we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To review and publish business recommendations — our legitimate interest in running a curated directory.
  • To send our newsletter — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To respond to enquiries and keep the site secure — our legitimate interests.

Sharing and storage

We use trusted third-party providers to run the site and our forms — including our hosting provider (Netlify), our forms/CRM provider (GoHighLevel), and Cloudflare, whose Turnstile check protects our forms from spam and processes your IP address to do so. They process data on our behalf under their own terms and safeguards. We do not sell your personal data.

How long we keep it

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law, then delete it.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your data, to object to or restrict processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email hello@yorkbestrated.uk. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time via the link in any email.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
